Black pepper may turn costlier due to poor harvest - The Economic Times

PEPPER - The estimated production of the top five IPC members

The estimated production of the top five IPC members last year were Vietnam (130,000 tonnes), Indonesia (71,500 tonnes), India (65,000 tonnes), Brazil (41,500 tonnes) and Malaysia (28,000 tonnes).

China, a non-IPC member, produced some 29,000 tonnes, mostly white pepper,last year for domestic consumption.

China is importing pepper mainly from Vietnam to supplement its expanding domestic consumption.

“Cambodia, a new producer, is coming up very fast with an estimated output of 11,000 tonnes in 2015,” said Grunsin.
